Fruitizz is aimed at children and contains one of the 'five-a-day' fruit portions recommend by health authorities in the country. The drink contains no added sugars, artificial colours or flavours and blends 60% fruit juice from grapes, apples and raspberries with natural sparkling water, McDonald's said in a statement.

Fruitizz is the result of three years research to find a drink that excites children, but also delivers nutritional benefit, McDonald's said.

The company told just-drinks it worked with experts from across the drinks industry, including Coca-Cola, to develop Fruitizz.

McDonald's said the drink will only be available in the UK.

Fruitizz will be part of the restaurant's Happy Meal or sold seperatly for GBP0.89 (US$1.43) per 25cl cup, GBP0.99 per 40cl and GBP1.29 per 50cl.

“We tried and tested 80 formulations in order to create the right product that delivers nutritional benefit as well as a new, exciting taste,” said McDonald's UK head Jill McDonald.
