Roberto Mercadé will take over as Coca-Cola's Latin Centre president

The Coca-Cola Co has appointed Roberto Mercadé as the new president of its Latin Centre business unit.

Mercadé, currently Coca-Cola's South Pacific president, will replace Therese Gearhart, who is retiring from the company, Coca-Cola told just-drinks yesterday. The changeover will take place on 1 January.

Meanwhile, Vamsi Mohan, an executive from bottler Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages, will step into Mercadé's position as president of Coca-Cola's South Pacific unit. Mohan is currently Hindustan's regional director for India, Bangladesh Sri Lanka and Nepal.

Both announcements were made internally earlier this month, the group's spokesperson said.

Mercadé faces a challenging environment in Latin Centre. In Q3 results, released last month, the region, which includes Colombia and Venezuela, posted high-single digit losses.

Earlier this week, Hindustan Coca-Cola, the group's largest bottling partner in India, announced plans to reorganise its business. Changes include the creation of "several hundred new jobs", while other roles within the business will be made redundant.
