The news follows last month's move by the American whiskey producer to ramp up presence in Canada. Meanwhile, MHW said their own expansion plans into Europe aim to capitalise on the thirst for US spirits.

The MHW European platform will operate through a logistics hub in the Netherlands with "additional expertise" in the UK, and back-office support from New York. Services include: compliance and European legislation consulting; customer service; operations support; and accounting.

"There is a growing demand for US craft products in Europe that we are now able to serve with a depth of distribution and reach that has been previously unavailable to producers without substantial investment," said John Beaudette, president of MHW. "Our goal is to become a trusted advisor for brands looking to enter European markets by leveraging the practices that have driven decades of success in the US."

In addition to their European agreement with MHW, Templeton Rye has also recently started exporting to Japan, New Zealand, South Korea and India with plans to increase their international footprint into 2019. The global roll-out follows the opening of a US$35m Templeton whiskey distillery in Iowa, in August.
