Systembolaget has reported a hike in sales in the first 11 months of the year.

The Swedish state-run alcohol retail monopoly said yesterday (11 December) that sales, measured in pure alcohol, jumped 5.1% year-on-year to 36.173m litres in the period between January and November.

Systembolaget said that southern Sweden has seen the greatest increase, where sales were up 6%. However, all 21 regions in Sweden experienced growth.

Sales of spirits rose 2% in the 11 months, compared to the same period last year, to 16.9m litres. Wine sales leapt 5.7% to 142.3m litres and strong beer sales - the only type of beer Systembolaget sells - rose 5.4% to 187.5m litres.

The company noted that cider sales fell, however, by 1.7% to 16.3m litres.

Sales of alcohol free drinks rose 9.9% to 0.7m litres.
