Systembolaget is looking to sell the properties which house its retail outlets in Sweden.

The alcohol retail monopoly confirmed to just-drinks today (6 September) that it will sell the 100 buildings it owns and rent the stores it currently has in those buildings.

"We have 409 stores in Sweden, and we rent around 300 of those stores, while owning the remainder," a spokesperson for Systembolaget told just-drinks. "Many of the buildings that we own also contain flats and other stores, as well as our retail outlets.

"By selling our properties and renting our stores back, we can concentrate on our core business if alcohol retail."

The sale will begin later this month, the spokesperson added, with the properties expected to reap in the region of SEK1bn (US$146.4m).
