The first trial in the Systembolaget bribery scandal has begun. Two employees of wine supplier Vin-Traedgaardh are charged with paying SEK900,000 to 18 managers of the Swedish alcohol retailing monopoly, in the trial which began yesterday (7 November).

A total of 77 store managers will also be tried for allegedly accepting bribes in return for increasing the profile of certain products in stores.

The trial is the first of six scheduled to handle the issue, Agence France Presse reported.
