Systembolaget has posted a slight rise in sales for the first four months of this year. The Swedish state-run alcohol retailing monopoly saw sales, measured in pure alcohol, lift by 1.6% year-on-year in the period from January to April.

The retailer saw sales rise most significantly in the southern part of the country. The counties of Vastmanland in eastern Sweden, Dalarna in central Sweden, Gayleborg in north-eastern Sweden and Norrnotten in the north registered drops in sales, however.

For the month of April, sales in pure alcohol dropped by 1.9% year-on-year, with spirits sales, measured in litres, falling by 11.1%. Wine sales also dipped, by 1%, although strong beer sales were up by 1.6%
