US-based wines and spirits group Brown-Forman will next month see its Australian distribution company from Swift + Moore become Brown-Forman Australia.

The move follows Brown-Forman's acquisition of the company, which had previously been a joint venture.

"We see this as a logical decision following Brown-Forman taking 100% control of the Swift + Moore business in February," said Brown-Forman Australia's managing director Michael McShane. "Swift + Moore has a long and distinguished history in the Australian liquor industry and we are pleased to continue building upon the fine traditions of this long-standing business."

Swift + Moore was formerly a joint venture between Brown-Forman and Allied Domecq and, following Pernod Ricard's acquisition of Allied, the French group assumed Allied's participation in the company.

However, Pernod Ricard already had a distributor in Australia, and subsequently sold its equity position to Brown-Forman.
