Suntory International Corp. is to release three types of shochu in the US. The subsidiary of Japan's Suntory Ltd. said yesterday (4 October) that it will launch barley-based Yaemaru, sweet potato-based Kuromaru and buckwheat-based Kaguranomai.

The move is an attempt to capitalise on the popularity of Japanese food and culture in the US, Suntory said.

The new range will be available in Japanese restaurants and bars in New York and California, with a 750ml bottle retailing at between US$16 and US$25.
