Suntory Holdings will make the changes on Wednesday

Suntory Holdings is to hive off its beer business, placing the leftover spirits unit under the control of Beam Suntory Inc.

The Japanese company said today its beer brands will be operated by an independent unit called Suntory Beer. Suntory Liquors, which currently houses both beer and spirits, will run solely as a spirits division and integrated into Beam Suntory.

The changes will take place next Wednesday (1 October), Suntory Holdings said.

The move will be accompanied by a number of executive changes, including incoming Suntory Holdings president Takeshi Niinami joining Beam Suntory as a director and board member. Niinami will take over as president of Suntory Holdings from Nobutada Saji also on Wednesday.
