Suntory bought the Lucozade and Ribena brands in 2014

Suntory's beverage unit is trying to complete its global takeover of Lucozade and Ribena with a swoop for the brands' leftover bottling and distribution rights in Nigeria.

The Japanese firm bought the soft drinks brands from pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) in 2014. However, GSK continues to exclusively bottle and distribute them in Nigeria under a trading agreement.

GSK Nigeria confirmed to just-drinks today that it had received an offer from Suntory Beverage & Food (SBF) for its remaining drinks business. "This new proposal is for Suntory to acquire the bottling and distribution infrastructure in Nigeria," a spokesperson said.

Financial details of the proposal have not been disclosed. Suntory Beverage & Food did not respond to a request for comment.

According to a local media report, the proposal also includes part of GSK Nigeria's production plant in Agbara.
