Heineken sees strong third quarter, thanks to good weather

Warm weather helped drive a strong third quarter for Heineken.

The brewer released its year-to-date and third quarter trading update this morning, in which total volumes for the three months to the end of September were up 6.7% - or 5.4% in organic terms. Consolidated sales in the period saw a high single digit lift to EUR5.5bn (US$6.1bn), taking the year-to-date total to EUR15.4bn.

The company said "favourable summer weather and continued growth in Americas and Asia Pacific regions" helped boost volumes. However, in Africa Middle East & Eastern Europe, volumes were flat.

Jean-François van Boxmeer, chairman of the executive board & CEO, said: "Our strong performance in the third quarter is consistent with our earlier 2015 FY guidance that volume would be weighted to the second half of the year. Heineken's well-balanced global footprint, excellent portfolio of brands, including the recent addition of Red Stripe and partnership with Lagunitas, combined with a powerful innovation agenda are expected to continue to deliver positive top and bottom line growth."

Heineken's share price was up more than 4% at CET 1051.
