SUN Interbrew, the Russian arm of brewing giant InBev, is to spend around EUR50m (US$64.3m) on building a new brewery in eastern Russia.

The brewer will begin construction on the site in Angarsk in the Irkutsk region of Russia in the coming weeks and hopes that the brewery will be up and running by the start of 2008.

A SUN Interbrew spokesman said the brewer would announce the site's capacity at a later date. "The construction of the brewery in Irkutsk will help to decrease the capacity shortage in the eastern part of Russia," he told just-drinks today (31 May).

The spokesman added that SUN Interbrew had yet to decide which brands would be brewed in Angarsk.

SUN Interbrew is Russia's second-largest brewer, selling brands including Sibirskaya Korona, Klinskoye, Stella Artois and Beck's.

Sectors: Beer & cider

Companies: Anheuser-Busch InBev
