Keenan, who was appointed in 2008, was CEO of wine and spirits at Grand Metropolitan in the 1990s and an architect of the merger of that business with Guinness to form Diageo. He has since overseen the development of Stock, owner of brands including Lubelska and Zoladkowa Gorzka, into one of the largest spirits companies in central and eastern Europe.

Stock said David Maloney, currently senior independent non-executive director, would take over as chairman at the company AGM on 19 May, adding that a further announcement about Maloney’s position would follow.

Stock CEO Chris Heath thanked Keenan for his "guidance and support throughout a period of rapid growth for Stock Spirits".

Earlier this month, Stock recruited former Drambuie CEO Michael Kennedy as its new MD for international and Italy.
