Quilmes has begun brewing Stella Artois in Argentina again, according to press reports. The Latin America News Digest said yesterday (22 December) that the Argentine brewer has re-started production at its plant in Zarate in the province of Buenos Aires.

Quilmes ceased production of Stella Artois two years ago after the economic crisis that hit Argentina in 2001 and 2002.

By restarting production, Quilmes hopes to compete with Heineken and Warsteiner in the Argentine beer market.

Quilmes is owned by InBev, the company formed earlier this year when Interbrew merged with AmBev.
