Amber Beverage Group is a division of SPI Group

SPI Group has bought into Fabrica de Tequilas Finos.

The company, which owns the Stolichnaya vodka brand, said earlier today that its Amber Beverage Group division has acquired a "significant equity stake" in the Mexican company. The specific size and cost of the stake purchase was not disclosed.

Fabrica De Tequilas Finos owns and produces around 20 Tequila brands, including KAH, Don Camilo, Agave 99, Zapopan and Tonala, said Amber.

"We look forward to expanding our portfolio of beverages in a new fast-growing category and to establishing an even stronger global footprint," said Amber's CEO, Seymour Ferreira.

Family-owned Fabrica de Tequilas Finos was founded in 2000 and is based in the town of Tequila in Jalisco.

SPI set up Amber in late-2014. The Riga-based subsidiary produces, distributes and markets wine and spirits brands across the Baltic states. It also exports its owned brands to around 50 markets.

Last year, SPI added to its wine footprint through the purchase of Arinzano Winery in Spain.
