Southern Wine & Spirits of America's newly-installed COO has announced an overhaul of the company's management team.

Brad Vassar said yesterday (28 May) that Southern's senior VP for sales & marketing, Kevin Fennessey, will take on the new role of executive VP for commercial strategy, effective immediately. Fennessey, who will report to Vasser, is to oversee a new strategy to "identify sales and marketing needs".

The changes follow Vasser's appointment as COO this month, when he announced his intention to implement a change in the structure of Southern's corporate team.

Yesterday, the COO said he will make additional appointments over the next few months.

Other changes announced yesterday include:

  • Gerry Rivero, executive VP & GM of the Coastal-Pacific wine & spirits (CPWS) division, will add control markets to his current open-markets scope.
  • Bob Swartz, executive VP & GM of North American spirits & wine (NASW) - the dedicated Diageo and Moët Hennessy control states brokerage organization - will continue in his NASW leadership role, but will now report directly to Rivero.
  • The CPWS division will now manage or oversee all markets where Southern partners with Diageo and Moët Hennessy portfolios.
