Southern switched its CEO earlier this month

Southern Wine & Spirits of America has confirmed a new chief operating officer after the previous COO stepped up to lead the company.

Brad Vassar, formerly Southern's general manager, takes on the role immediately, the group said yesterday (12 May). Vassar takes over from Wayne Chaplin, who was appointed CEO earlier this month

Chaplin's father, Harvey, was the previous chief executive.

Vasser said: “Working at Southern over the last 23 years, I have learned that success is, ultimately, a team effort. My thanks and gratitude go out to all my Southern colleagues.”

The company, the US's largest wine and spirits distributor operating in 35 states, said that more announcements regarding the structure of its corporate team are due in “the weeks ahead”.
