Scottish & Newcastle (S&N) is in talks to buy fruit juice business Compal, according to press reports. A story in The Herald earlier this week claimed that the brewer is in talks with Portuguese food firm Nutrinveste to acquire the fruit juice unit through its Central de Cervejas brewing operation in the country.

No sources were cited in the story, while a spokesperson for S&N refused to comment to the newspaper.

In local reports this week, Portuguese papers suggested that Central de Cervejas and Coca-Cola are among the three contenders who have made offers, with a Spanish company thought to be the third interested party.

No-one at S&N was available for comment when contacted by just-drinks today (30 September).
