Skyy Spirits has appointed of a new director of public relations and events.

The company said today (11 October) that communications veteran Dave Karraker will take on the role reporting directly to the vice president of marketing David Racicot.

Karraker will oversee all internal and external communications activities for the company as well as its spirits portfolio.

In his new role, Karraker will also take on the management of Skyy Spirits' brand-building events, sponsorships and entertainment outreach programmes.

Karraker's previous experience includes working as senior director of corporate communications for Sony Computer Entertainment America and vice president of corporate communications for Allied Domecq Spirits North America. Karraker's experience also includes work across brands such as Pete's Brewing Company, Kmart, Martha Stewart, Joe Boxer, Sega, Microsoft and Blockbuster.

Skyy Spirits president and CEO Gerry Ruvo said: "Throughout his career, Dave has demonstrated a keen eye for strategic brand building. As Skyy Spirits looks to expand our strong, diverse portfolio of super-premium and luxury brands, as well as build greater bonds with our distributor and retail partners, his talents will assist us in driving awareness, trial and adoption, ultimately leading to brand growth."

Campari completed its acquisition of Skyy Spirits in November last year, when it bought the outstanding 11% stake after gaining an option to buy the shares four years earlier.The San Francisco-based company owns premium vodka brand Skyy, which sells around 2.4m cases a year. Skyy Spirits also distributes brands including Diageo's 1800 Tequila and C&C International's Tullamore Dew Irish whiskey.
