Skinny Nutritional Corp has announced that Michael Salaman will take over as CEO next month, as the group prepares to expand in New England with Polar Beverages.

Salaman, the current company chairman, will become president and CEO of Skinny Nutritional Corp from 1 July, following Ron Wilson's decision to step down from the role.

One of Salaman's first tasks will be to develop the firm's flagship Skinny Water brand in New England, after the firm signed a distribution deal with Polar Beverages in the state.

Independently-owned Polar distributes to more than 20,000 retailers throughout New England, including many large national and regional chains, and employs 300 sales staff.

"We believe that they are highly influential in the market place and anticipate that this relationship will greatly increase our distribution," said the outgoing Wilson.

He said that he intends to continue serving on the board until his current term ends.

"Additionally, I intend to continue to work with the company's senior management team in the acquisition of beverage distribution accounts," he said. A reason for Wilson's departure as CEO was not given.

Salaman said: "Under Ron's leadership, Skinny Nutritional has restructured its operations in order to significantly reduce its cost of goods and to enhance its distribution network. The company's new distribution relationship with Polar Beverages is another example of the positive growth that we have experienced through Mr Wilson's leadership and efforts."

Skinny Water is a zero-calorie, functional bottled water range.
