Shepherd Neame has appointed Mark Rider as its new finance and IT director.

Rider, aged 35, will join the UK-based Spitfire beer brewer in January. He will replace Ken Littlefair, who has announced his retirement after 11 years with the company, Shepherd Neame said late last week.

Most recently, Rider was head of finance at the food division of supermarket chain J Sainsbury. He has spent the past decade with the retailer in various senior finance roles.

"Ken has played a significant role in the company's progress, particularly in modernising and developing our IT systems, improving business processes and the quality of management information flow," said Shepherd Neame's chairman, Miles Templeman. "We wish him well in his retirement."

Littlefair will stand down from the board of directors in March.
