UK beer and cider group Scottish & Newcastle (S&N) will formally change its name to Heineken UK Limited from 23 November.

Scottish & Newcastle became part of the Heineken Group in April 2008 and is now the UK operating company within Heineken's Western European region.

Stefan Orlowski, S&N UK's managing director, said yesterday (28 September): "Over the past 18 months we've been working together to integrate S&N UK into the wider Heineken business. What was clear from the beginning is that the two businesses shared very similar values and beliefs; and of course both have strong family origins and rich histories.

He added: "Now that we have successfully completed our integration, we would like our name to reflect our vision of working together and to embrace our position within the wider Heineken Group."

The company said it is now in the process of communicating the name change to its customers and it is very much "business as usual" as it undertakes the transition over the next few months.

The Scottish & Newcastle name will continue to be used by the company's pub management business, which will now become the Scottish & Newcastle Pub Company, reflecting the development of this part of the business.

S&N last month axed Bulmers Pear on draught to concentrate on the bottled version.

S&N told just-drinks that the move, which came just a year after the launch of Bulmers Pear in draught, was due to the "phenomenal success" of Bulmers Pear in bottles.
