Savse, an independent smoothie maker from the country of Georgia, has launched a new flavour in the UK, Purple Carrot.

The smoothie is a throwback to "our forebears" who enjoyed the "depth of flavour" of purple carrots, the company said.

Savse founder Guka Taveridze said: "Purple carrots are much earthier, crunchier and less watery than the common supermarket type, making them the perfect base for Savse's latest smoothie. Today's consumers are becoming more health-conscious and are constantly driven towards natural offerings and new or under valued ingredients."

The Purple Carrot smoothie contains 43% purple carrot juice, 37% apple juice, 9% blackcurrant pulp, 6% pomegranate juice and 5% blueberry pulp.

Savse's unpasturised fruit-and-vegetable smoothies are made using cold-pressurised production that the company claims keeps the ingredients fresh.

In January, PepsiCo said it was to launch a kale-based vegetable smoothie in the UK under its Naked juice brand. Naked Kale Blazer comprises 30% vegetable, two-thirds of which is kale, and provides two portions of the UK Government's recommended five fruit or vegetables per day.
