Sapporo Holdings has predicted a rise in sales of its beer-flavoured beverage next year. The Japanese company warned, however, that its outlook for the industry overall was cautious.

Sapporo said today (11 January) that it hopes for growth of 21% in sales of its beer-flavoured Draft One beverage to 22m cases for the year to 31 December.

Given an aging population and cost-conscious consumers, however, the company is aiming for a 1% fall in sales for its beer business - comprising regular beer, 'happoshu' beverages and Draft One - in volume terms to 75m cases this year.

"We will definitely achieve the target," said Sadao Fukuda, president of Sapporo Breweries Ltd.

Sectors: Beer & cider
