Ang told Forbes Asia in an article published yesterday each brewery will have an initial capacity of 2m hectolitres. In 2017, San Miguel's production capacity stood at 19m hectolitres of beer.

Ang said the Philippine company will invest PHP200bn (US$3.8bn) in the project. The funds will come from cash flow, borrowing and selling shares, according to Forbes Asia.

"Our target is to put up ten new breweries with an initial capacity of 2m hectolitres each," Ang said in the interview. The CEO said the expansion will be part of San Miguel's biggest investment yet.

In 2017, San Miguel's beer and spirits business was merged into its listed food unit. The combined entity was named San Miguel Food and Beverage.
