The Czech brewer, Starobrno, posted sales in the first half of 2002 of CZK480.9m, up 9% on the first half of 2001. The company said that sales volumes of its Starobrno and Hostan brands increased by 3.9% to 379,347 hls. The company's exports grew by 33% to 19,363 hls.

With the merger of Starobrno with Znojmo in April 2002, creating a strong regional player in South Moravia, turnover at Starobrno is forecast to rise to between CZK800m and CZK900m for the coming year. Annual production is expected to be in the region of 800,000 hls of beer and 100,000 hls of soft drinks.
