SABMiller has responded to reports that one of its major shareholders was mulling a break-up. The brewer said today that it was not aware of any change in US company Altria's plans for its 36% shareholding in SABMiller.

Altria owns 430m shares in SABMiller as a legacy of SAB's purchase of Miller and has the option to sell its holding from the end of June next year.

A spokesman for the brewer said that Altria had not indicated what its long-term plans were for the holding.
