In a joint-statement on Friday, the companies said they have settled "amicably" a disagreement over control of Miller Brewing Co's brands in the country. SABMiller will subsequently take back distribution rights for the brands, including Miller Genuine Draft, from April next year. Molson Coors have distributed the Miller brands in Canada for around 30 years.

The case dates back to February last year, when Miller Brewing Co, a SABMiller subsidiary, said it wanted to cancel Molson Coors' distribution contract for its brands in Canada. However, Molson Coors obtained a temporary injunction blocking the move.

The companies attempted to settle the matter out of court, but negotiations initially failed, it emerged in April this year.

The case was expected to head to court, before Friday's announcement of a settlement.

Asked about the terms of the agreement, a SABMiller spokesperson told just-drinks today: "We’re not giving details of the settlement."

SABMiller and Molson Coors currently operate the MillerCoors JV in the US. A five-year lock-up period, where each side had agreed not to transfer their voting or economic interests in the JV, ended in July last year.
