Coca-Cola Beverages Africa will operate across 12 markets on the continent

SABMiller, the Coca-Cola Co and Coca-Cola Sabco have appointed a CEO for their new combined venture in Africa.

Hüseyin Akin, currently Anadolu Efes' deputy CEO of beverages and chairman of Coca-Cola Içecek’s (CCI) subsidiary boards, will take up the new role at Coca-Cola Beverages Africa (CCBA) from 1 March next year, the companies said today. He will be charged with leading the “strategic and integration planning” for the new bottler.

SABMiller, the Coca-Cola Co and Coca-Cola Sabco's shareholders announced last month plans to form CCBA. The new entity, which still requires regulatory approval, will consist of bottling operation in 12 markets across southern and eastern Africa. It will account for around 40% of Coca-Cola's volumes in Africa.

On his appointment, Akin said: “As the continent’s largest bottler, Coca-Cola Beverages Africa has a generations-long growth opportunity ahead of it. The next few years will be critical as we merge and integrate the new business, in readiness to deliver its full potential.”

SABMiller has a 24% stake in Turkey's Anadolu Efes, where Akin is currently employed.
