SABMiller has appointed Stephan-Maria Weber as president of its Romanian unit, Ursus Breweries. The promotion will be effective from 1 November.

Reporting to Alan Clark, managing director of SABMiller Europe, he succeeds Dieter Schulze who after four years in Romania has been appointed president of Kompania Piwowarska, the Polish subsidiary of SABMiller.

Weber has been sales & distribution and trade marketing director for Europe for three-and-a-half years. Prior to joining SABMiller, Weber started his career with Procter & Gamble and then joined British American Tobacco where he held various national and international assignments in marketing, sales & distribution and trade marketing.

"Building on the growth momentum of Ursus Breweries, Stephan will lead the organisation as we expand our production capacity and further strengthen our robust brand portfolio, making the challenge for market leadership," said Clark.

Ursus is the second largest brewer in Romania, with a market share of 24%.

The company has its headquarters in Bucharest and owns four breweries in Cluj-Napoca, Timisoara, Buzau, Brasov and employs over 1,300 people.
