Family-owned Rutherford Wine Co has launched a zinfandel finished in Bourbon barrels. Four Virtues Bourbon Barrel Zinfandel 2016 is made from zinfandel grapes grown in California's Lodi appellation. The wine is aged in French and American oak before being finished in Bourbon whiskey barrels. It is packaged in a whiskey-inspired bottle.

"Experimenting with different barrel regimes often leads to great discoveries," said Rutherford Wine Co winemaker Jay Turnipseed. "In this case, ageing in Bourbon oak barrels imparted layers of caramel, vanilla and toasty oak to the wine's naturally intense dark berry character."

The wine is available across the US.

Rutherford Wine Co is based in Rutherford, California.
