The company said today (28 November) that local spirits distributor ABV Brands will handle its namesake 'Original' and 'Gold' vodka variants in the country. The group plans to promote its Russian heritage in order to gain share of South Africa's premium vodka sector.

ABV Brands said: "Russian Standard is the only premium vodka available in South Africa that is truly Russian because it is 100% produced in Russia, made with Russian ingredients, distilled and bottled in Russia." Russian Standard's CEO for international business, Jonathan Stordy, added: "We are confident that our brands are positioned well in the South African market and we look forward to growing our sales and market share quickly."

ABV was founded in May 2010 as the distributor for Beam Inc brands in South Africa, including Jim Beam and Maker's Mark Bourbon, Sauza Tequila and Teacher's Scotch whisky. Separately, Russian Standard already has distribution deals in several countries with Beam and the joint-venture co-owned by Beam and Edrington Group, Maxxium Worldwide.
