The Australian press is speculating today that the country's largest juice company will be merged with National Foods, the dairy company. Both companies are owned by the Philippine conglomerate San Miguel.

There were no comments in the press from the Berri management today, however, last month, Berri chief executive Alison Watkins said combining the two companies would create a bigger market as well as opening opportunities for new products.

One Australian press report quoted Mark Chown, chairman of Australian Citrus Growers, which supplies orange juice to Berri, saying he had heard rumours of a merger.
