Russian Standard's sales in the UK are close to 1m cases per year, according to Whyte & Mackay

Whyte & Mackay is set to cease distributing the Russian Standard in the UK for Roust Inc, with the vodka brand returning to William Grant & Sons' third-party stable.

Whyte & Mackay, which took over from William Grant & Sons UK in January, 2012, said today that it has “mutually agreed” with brand owner Roust to terminate the tie-up in the UK at the end of this year. William Grant will assume distribution responsibilities in the country, four years to the day after it gave the brand up, on 1 January, 2016.

“We have worked closely with the team at Roust over the last four years and driven the brand to nearly 1m cases in the UK,” said Whyte & Mackay's chief commercial officer, Nick Garland. “The brand will leave us three times the size it was when we took it on.”

Roust chairman & owner Roustam Tariko added: “We are extremely grateful for the passion and commitment that the Whyte & Mackay team has applied to building the Russian Standard brand in the UK. As a distributor they delivered well beyond their own ambitious forecast.”

William Grant will continue to distribute Roust's Green Mark and Zubrówka in the UK. Roust's international division represents William Grant's spirits portfolio in Poland and Central Europe.

Roust is Whyte & Mackay's distributor in Russia, an arrangement that was set up in late-2011.
