Rok Stars has rolled out ABK to China

Rok Stars' drinks division has signed a distribution deal to launch its Bavarian beer brand ABK into China.

Rok Drinks said late last week that London-based REN Distributions would handle the brand in China and Hong Kong. The agreement has already started, with five containers of ABK bound for the market.

"We tested the Chinese imported beer market last year to good effect," said Jonathan Kendrick, chairman of Rok Stars. "What's apparent to us now is the early adopters of mainstream European beer brands in China are now looking for more interesting, high-quality beers – beers with a real story to tell."

Kendrick said REN has nationwide retail reach in China. Financial details were not disclosed.

Rok Stars was set up by Jonathan Kendrick and John Paul Dejoria, the latter having co-founded Tequila producer Patron Spirits Co. The drinks unit also owns the Oval vodka and Bogart's gin brands.

Last month, Rok extended the footprint of ABK in the US market.
