Kinahans will be handled in the UK by Mangrove distributors

Kinahan's will be handled in the UK by Mangrove distributors

Revived Irish whiskey brand Kinahan's is to launch in the UK following an export début in the US.

Distributor Mangrove will handle UK sales, initially rolling out a small batch blend and a single malt, Kinahan's Irish Whiskey said this week. The UK will not be be Kinahan's first export market; the brand is already available in the US and Canada.

A Kinahan's spokesperson told just-drinks that the focus is now on European distribution with partners confirmed for Italy and the Netherlands. There are also plans to launch in Switzerland and Germany.

Kinahan's whiskey was first produced in 1779 but the blending company that made it ceased trading in the 1920s. The newly-created Kinahan's Irish Whiskey reopened the company on the same spot in 2014 and claims to carry on the Kinahan's tradition. It uses whiskey from a number of sources in Ireland to create the new Kinahan's expressions.

Zak Oganian, Kinahan's MD, said: "We are immensely proud of the provenance of our company and it is on the basis of this strong foundation that we continue to create whiskies with the rich, smooth and full character that Kinahan's has always been known for."

A number of new Irish whiskey distilleries have opened in the past few years as the spirit gains traction in global markets, particularly the US.
In April, Walsh Whiskey confirmed that its new Irish whiskey distillery was online with an annual capacity of about 650,000 cases.
