Radico Khaitan is in talks to buy some brands from the United Breweries (UB) Group. The UB Group, India's largest brewer, is undergoing a streamlining of its business operations.

The talks are reported to be in a preliminary stage though Vijay Mallya, the chairman of the UB Group, has already announced his intention to downsize the group's 145-brand portfolio down to 40-45. The restructuring will also involve management changes, some of which have already taken place, and the integration of the recently-acquired Shaw Wallace's operations into the UB Group.

Radico has recently completed the acquisition of the Brihan brands for INR350m (US$7.8m) and plans to invest a further INR850m into more acquisitions. Lalit Khaitan, the head of Radico, declined to comment saying that the company was in talks with many groups for acquisitions.
