The Hungarian brewer, Brau Union Hungaria Sorgyarak Rt, reported pre-tax profits for 2001 of HUF2.83 billion, an increase of HUF221 million from the previous year. Operating profit rose by HUF105 million to HUF 2.9 billion in spite of a declining beer market.

Brau Union Hungaria claimed it had boosted its share of the shrinking domestic beer market from 26.5% in 2000 to 27.1% in 2001 despite only increasing beer volumes by 0.5%. Capital investment over the year was up by 7.5%
