US producer Premium Waters has launched what it claims is the first caffeinated bottled water, Water Joe. The product is described as a premium purified water infused with caffeine.

The 20oz pack contains 70mg of caffeine while the 70cl version has 85mg. There is also a one-litre option with 120mg.

In comparison, a regular 47.3cl can of Monster Energy contains 160mg of caffeine.

Water Joe contains no calories, and Premium Waters claims it is "a great alternative for anyone looking to replace expensive energy drinks, cut down their sugar intake in beverages or live a healthier lifestyle".

The company also said the product is "tasteless".

Earlier this year, US energy drinks producer Jolt relaunched its Jolt Cola brand in the US. Jolt Cola, which has twice the caffeine of regular cola, first appeared in 1985.
