Workers at Champagne house Piper-Heidsieck have returned to their posts after claiming victory in a dispute with parent firm Remy Cointreau.

The week-long strong strike ended today (24 September) after trade union representatives reached a deal with the company. Around 40 workers downed tools in protest at Remy Cointreau's plan to cut 39 jobs from Piper-Heidsieck’s 160-strong workforce.

A works council source said the agreement reached yesterday rules out any compulsory redundancies in the programme. Remy Cointreau has committed itself to ensuring the 39 posts are cut via voluntary redundancies spread over a three-year period.

Despite falling in the middle of the Champagne grape harvest, a Rémy-Cointreau spokesperson told just-drinks that the strike had "no impact" on its business.
