Philippe Brechot was unveiled late yesterday as the Puerto Rico-based rum producer's next leader. Brechot replaces Felix Serrallés, who is retiring after 36 years at the helm.

Felix Serrallés, a member of the fifth generation of the company's family owners, will become chairman.

Brechot's career in the drinks industry started in 1990, when he kicked off seven years with LVMH as regional export director for Veuve Clicquot. He then moved to Diageo where his 12-year tenure concluded with almost four years as general manager for Colombia. From 2010 to late-2015, Brechot worked for William Grant in Latin America, based out of Bogota.

"We are fortunate to have found Philippe, a proven executive with ample experience growing premium brands in global markets," said Felix Serrallés. "He will be an asset to lead our team as we continue to expand our brand's footprint throughout the global spirits market."

Late last year, the company rolled out two high-end iterations of its Don Q rum brand in the UK. Serrallés most important market, however, is the US, where it operates its own distribution subsidiary.
