Pernod Ricard will announce in the next few days that it has successfully negotiated the acquisition of Polmos Poznan, the distillery that produces Wyborowa vodka, for 400m Zloty (US$99m), according to sources in Poland.

Sources close to the deal acknowledged to that Agros, the Pernod subsidiary, would hand back the foreign rights to around 20 vodka brands to polish producers in return for the chance to buy Poznan.

However, it is also thought that Pernod has shelved any ambitions it may have had to acquire Polmos Bialystok the producer of Zubrowka vodka, the popular bison grass brand. It had been thought that Pernod was after full control of both Wyborowa and Zubrowka.

However, the sources believe Pernod will now only pursue the international distribution rights to Zubrowka, a brand the French group has already launched successfully in a number of markets.
