Irish whiskey innovation is showing no sign of slowing down, as Pernod Ricard unveils a new Jameson expression aged in beer barrels. Jameson Caskmates IPA Edition, which follows a rum cask Tullamore Dew from William Grant & Sons and a stout-seasoned Jameson from Pernod, continues Jameson's partnership with Irish brewery Franciscan Well and will roll out in the US.

The new expression is described as adding a "crisp, hoppy finish" to the taste of Jameson.

Jameson launched the Caskmates range in 2015 with a stout-barrel-aged expression that management said was an example of how Pernod could grow sales through existing brands and innovations.

Meanwhile, the Irish whiskey industry is looking to innovation to help premiumise products in the absence of a large supply of aged stock. As well as Tullamore Dew XO Caribbean Rum Cask, launched in October, William Grant has released a cider cask limited edition for the Tullamore Irish whiskey brand it bought in 2010.
