Pernod Ricard has launched the first cask strength whiskey under its Jameson Irish whiskey brand.

Jameson Bow Street 18 Years Cask Strength is 55.3% abv and was finished in a new maturation house at the Jameson's Bow Street distillery in Dublin. The expression is described as a reinterpretation of the Jameson 18 Years, and marks the first time production of a Jameson whiskey has taken place at Bow Street since 1975.

Simon Fay, international marketing director at Irish Distillers, said: "While Jameson's approachability has been key to its success, we had an opportunity with Jameson Bow Street 18 Years Cask Strength to reinforce the more serious whiskey side of the brand's heritage. Consumers are looking for increased choice in style and quality in Irish whiskey and Jameson, as the category leader, is committed to satisfying this appetite."

The expression was distilled and matured at the Midleton Distillery in Cork in a collection of Bourbon and Sherry casks. Its final maturation was in first-fill ex-Bourbon American oak barrels for six to 12 months.

The 40%-abv Jameson 18 Years was first released 15 years ago.
