The French spirits group said today Inverroche is a leading South African craft spirit brand based in the Cape Floral region. Financial details of the purchase were not disclosed.

The deal is expected to complete shortly.

Inverroche was founded by Lorna Scott, who uses indigenous, aromatic botanicals taken from the 'fynbos' - or fine bush - that covers the local countryside. The range includes Gin Classic, Gin Verdant, Gin Amber and is sold in 15 countries, according to the Inverroche website.

The Inverroche distillery also produces rum and liqueurs.

Commenting on the agreement, Scott said Pernod's distribution network will help Inverroche Gins reach new consumers.

"We will be taking a luxury African brand to a large audience and sharing the story of our common heritage," she added.

Paul-Robert Bouhier, MD of Pernod Ricard Sub-Saharian Africa, said: "Inverroche gins nicely complement our portfolio. We are excited to further contribute to their success in South Africa and to support their development throughout sub-Saharian Africa."

Beefeater-owner Pernod has extended its gin collection in the past year. In June, the company completed its purchase of Italian gin Malfy from New York-based Biggar & Leith for an undisclosed sum. Malfy's four-strong range of expressions - three of which are Italian-themed flavours - will sit in The Gin Hub, a "stand-alone brand company" that reports in to Pernod's UK division in London.
