Pernod Ricard is taking its Internet sales portal BarPremium, dedicated to top of the range products, into a number of French hypermarkets in the run-up to the festive season.

The site,, was launched at the start of 2007 and invites browsers to purchase "rare and prestigious products online". These include a selection of Martell Cognacs, Mumm Champagnes, whiskies such as Aberlour, Ballantine's, Scapa and Glendronach and Zubrowka vodka. Home delivery is available throughout the country.

"The website is a growing success and Pernod is now taking BarPremium concept to a larger audience," a Pernod spokeswoman told just-drinks today (23 November). "The vast majority of these premium labels are normally only available from specialist retailers and marketing them in hypers will be something of a first," she added.

Pernod is setting up the 9 sq.m BarPremium outlets in 27 hypermarkets from the beginning of December and these will each be manned by 2 hosts who will advise customers on the selection on offer.
