Pernod Ricard has relaunched its lower-alcohol Brancott Estate Flight in the UK four years after it was last available.

The French alcohol group said today the return of the 9%-abv New Zealand wine comes as consumer trends for the lower-alcohol and lower-calorie category grow. According Pernod, which also owns the Jacob's Creek wine brand, there is a "growing desire" for reduced alcohol and calorie content among UK consumers.

The Flight Series will roll out to Sainsbury's stores in July with an SRP of GBP9.50 (US$12).

The original Brancott Estate Flight was unveiled in 2013 and taken off shelves two years later. Details on why it was discontinued were not disclosed.

Pernod said today it has used a "natural winemaking approach" in the creation of Brancott Estate Flight without giving further details. It said the process cuts calories by 20% while retaining the Brancott brand's "distinctive Marlborough flavours".

Wine companies are releasing more low-alcohol options. This year, Casella Family Brands told just-drinks it will roll out an 8.5%-abv variant for its Yellow Tail portfolio.
