Pernod Ricard has unveiled a line extension to its rum brand Mailbu.

The French drinks giant has launched a tropical banana variant in the US, the company said yesterday (15 March). The newcomer joins four other products in the Malibu stable, including passion fruit and mango variants.

"Research shows that the demand for banana-flavoured food and beverages is on the rise, and fresh bananas continue to be the number one fresh fruit consumed in the country," said Cyril Claquin, senior vice president, global marketing and sales, at Malibu-Kahlua International, Pernod's brand-owning unit.

The new Malibu comes just weeks after Malibu-Kahlua International revamped the packaging for the entire portfolio.

The release also comes as Malibu-Kahlua International launches two flavour extensions for its Kahlua coffee liqueur.
