Pernod Ricard has consolidated its operations in India after taking full control of a production joint venture in the country.

Pernod has bought the remaining 26% stake in United Agencies and has merged the business with Seagram India, its fully-owned subsidiary. The company declined to reveal what it paid for the share.

Param Uberoi, CEO of Seagram India, told just-drinks the move would create "greater synergies" throughout the company's operations in the country.

"Pernod Ricard is experiencing unparalleled growth in the spirits industry in India and is the leading global player through its key local and global brands. Seagram India expects to do nearly 6.5m cases in 2005-06 [and] Pernod Ricard will explore all suitable opportunities for organic and inorganic growth in India."

Uberoi declined to comment on whether Pernod had lined up local acquisition targets in India.
